2016 OGP Zinfandel
The epitome of Foothill old-vine Zinfandel – dust and spice with complex, intense fruit. The Original Grandpere Vineyard is reputedly the world’s oldest, documented producing Zinfandel vineyard – dating back to the 1860’s - and it was awarded the California State Fair Vineyard of the Year in 2016.
"This massive wine made from a vineyard planted in the 1860s combines powerful ripe flavors with tons of fine-grained tannins and a very full body. Great concentration, depth and layering come with baking-spice and herb nuances. It's impressive to drink now with major proteins, but best after 2023." 94 points/Cellar Selection, Wine Enthusiast (11/2020)
"Although Amador Zinfandels are, more often than not, wines big on sinewy substance and spice, this one from the oldest documented Zin vineyard in California is a balanced, slightly fleshy, nicely tailored wine of tempered strength that puts the emphasis on vivid berry- and plum-like fruit rather than heady ripeness and shows a little more sophistication than is typically displayed by its more rustic, old-vine Sierra Foothill cousins. Albeit tasting right now, it has the fruity stamina to age gracefully for no fewer than another half-dozen years." 90 points/1 puff - Connoisseurs' Guide (11/2020)
