This is the vineyard that started Vino Noceto and is still the source of some of our most profound and ageable Sangioveses.  With formidable structure, reserved fruit, and pronounced, savory notes of leather, cedar, and clay, it is usually the first Single Block to sell out.  100% Sangiovese Grosso.

The story?  Dos Oakies comes from the oldest portion of our vineyard, planted in 1987, between the tall, thin oak and the now-departed short, stout oak.  Grapes for this selection were originally sourced from Il Poggione in Montalcino, Tuscany, Italy.

"Vino Noceto's Dos Oakies, which refers to a pair of signature oaks on the Amador County estate in its early years, stems from the first Sangiovese that Jim and Suzy Gullett planted in 1988, setting them on the path to being widely acknowledged as the most accomplished advocates of the variety in California, a standing reinforced by the vitality, fresh fruit, reserved tannins and lively acidity of this release."  BEST OF CLASS - Mike Dunne, SF Chronicle Wine Competition

"Generous fruit flavors are wrapped in fine-grained tannins as this full-bodied and well-balanced wine brings a lightly gripping texture to its abundant plum, mint, and cherry flavors.  It comes from one of California's few noted Sangiovese producers." 92 points - Wine Enthusiast (7/1/2021)

"The sweet and slightly tangy, cherry-like fruit of Sangiovese is on full and continuous display here, and the wine is underpinned by a complement of fine-grained tannins that provide the kind of structure and firming grip to make us convinced believers that this is a wine with excellent potential for a half-decade of age.  That said, its tannins are so well managed that they do little, if anything, to interfere with its ongoing message of concentrated fruit, and we would happily bring this one to the table without a further wait when a classic Bistecca alla Fiorentina is the star of the evening meal." 89 points | 1 puff - Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (11/2021)
