2018 Marmellata Sangiovese
If Dos Oakies is King, Marmellata is Queen. Richer, more opulent fruit wafts from the glass, mingling with notes of chocolate, baking spice, coffee, and vanilla. Marmellata is known for being our jammiest Sangiovese, with a beautiful velvet mouth-feel. Grapes for this selection were originally sourced from Biondi Santi in Montalcino, Tuscany, Italy. This wine is a perennial favorite for our Big Nut club members, and it rivals Dos Oakies as the first to sell out. 100% Sangiovese Grosso.
"This firm-textured wine offers enticing complexity and great structure for pairing with rich dishes. Hints of green olive, leather, and sage in the aroma give way to raspberry and cranberry flavors on a moderately tannic texture. Best through at least 2026." 91 points - Wine Enthusiast (7/2021)
"The Noceto Sangiovese that embraces ripeness a bit more than do any of its mates, the Marmellata is an intense and very rich offering with a touch of jamminess to its generous, black cherry fruit. It is, however, keenly varietal despite its riper leanings, and is never compromised by any palpable heat. Its well-integrated tannins afford it the structural spine for a good four or five years of positive growth, but its minor astringency will not get in the way of near-term enjoyment when it is poured as a partner to a juicy veal chop." 90 points + 1 puff - Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (11/2021)
