2019 Sangiovese "Hillside"

No Single Block has evolved over the years as much as Hillside. This is a wine that has "grown up" with every consecutive vintage. It was our 2015 Hillside that so impressed the judges at the California State Fair, they awarded it "Best Sangiovese in California."
This vintage is Sangiovese Piccolo coming from the hillside on our ranch-house parcel and our neighbors at Reward Ranch. Sangiovese grapes for this selection were originally sourced from Isole e Olena in Chianti, Tuscany, Italy.
“Slightly quiet, but well-focused, cherry-like fruit slowly makes an appearance in its initially, lightly dusty, dried-flower aromas then assumes a more prominent role in the bright, mid-depth flavors of this direct, nicely balanced, medium-full-bodied Sangiovese. The wine is not as complex or quite as deep as some of its samewinery mates, yet its well-stated fruit is nicely sustained even as mildly grippy tannins step up at the finish. There is nothing so tough about it as to preclude enjoyment now, but it will benefit from three to five years of age.” Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine - 89 points | 1 puff
